Our trip took us from Fresno to Tokyo where we stayed with friends and Duane did a restorative justice workshop. From Tokyo we flew through Singapore to Bali for one night, then to the northern tip of Sumatra to Banda Aceh, the site of the tsunami, where we stayed with friends and toured the devastated area. From Aceh we flew to Java and reunited with friends from when we lived there and toured the earthquake and volcano disaster areas. We took a side trip from the Mennonite village devastated by the earthquake to the south coast beach nearby. The day after we were on the beach it was hit by a tsunami for the first time in over 100 years. It was good to introduce Ashlynn to our friends and the places we had worked and lived.
